You can play your part in the celebrations. If you used to be in the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Senior Scouts, Rover Scouts, Venture Scouts, Explorer Scouts, or a leader, then why not contact your old Group. You never know, you may end up talking to the youth members about what Scouting was like when you were a member. You can also play your part by picking up the new 50 pence piece which proudly displays the Scout emblem superimposed on a globe. Also, look out for the special issue Scouting stamps from Royal Mail, available later this year. |

Scouts got the chance to have a go tackling a small fire with a fire extinguisher. [see photo]
Suzanne Donovan Chubb Fire’s Communications and Marketing Director explains: “Our expertise in the field of fire safety means that we can really offer the Scouts some practical assistance in running the Badge. Each year our engineers service over four million extinguishers in the UK and we are keen to get involved in working with the Scouts and the community on a local level.” Suzanne added: “The importance of fire safety can not be underestimated with over 14,000 people killed or injured in domestic fires each year. The Fire Safety Badge offers the Scouts some important practical advice on fire prevention, detection and escape routes should a fire break out, all of which could potentially save their lives, or the lives of others.” “To
date, over 34,000 Scouts have achieved their Chubb Fire Safety Badge –
which means more than 34,000 young boys and girls now have a home escape
plan.” |

The Cubs Scout section held their annual Pictwood Derby model car racing event on 11th March, at Childwall Valley Methodist Church. Cubs from the Packs in Picton District turned up to race the cars they had designed and built - with a little help from their friends and family.
Well done to the Cub Scout from the 26th Picton Cub Pack (left) who won the Design Competition final, and the Cub Scout from 1st Picton Cub Pack (right) who won the Pictwood Races competition final.

A
year to celebrate for Beavers and Cubs 1st January 2006 |

In 2006 Beaver Scouts across the country are celebrating 20 years of Scouting adventures. The Beavers Scout section was formed in 1986 and was based on an idea developed in Canada for their youngest members. Beaver Scouts are aged between 6 and 8 years of age, and have lots of fun sharing the adventure together with their friends. In Picton District the year will be marked with special events such as the County's Wing Ding weekend, and a joint fun day with the Beavers of Allerton District. Happy Anniversary to Beavers everywhere. I hope you enjoy many more years of adventure in Scouting.

In 2006 Cub Scouts across the country are celebrating 90 years of Scouting adventures. The Cub Scout section was formed in 1916 by the Founder of Scouting, Lord Baden-Powell, and was created because the younger brothers of Scouts wanted to take part in the adventure too. Cub Scouts are aged between 8 and 10½ years of age, and have lots of fun taking part in new activities and learning about the world around them. In Picton District the year will be marked with special themed events such as the Pictwood Derby and the Patterson Shield competition. Happy Anniversary to Cubs everywhere. I hope you enjoy many more years of adventure in Scouting. |
